Brooke Pinto is the Councilmember for Ward 2, and she’s broken some barriers since taking office in 2021. She’s the youngest member ever elected to the DC Council, and the first woman to represent Ward 2. She was also just appointed as the Chairwoman for the Committee on the Judiciary & Public Safety.

What is something you wish more people knew about D.C. Council?
I am always impressed with the sincere level of dedication and commitment our teams have to improving our city and the excellent ideas they bring to the table! I also wish more people knew how to participate in the legislative process. All of our hearings are cast online and residents can testify or submit testimony on issues that are important to them. You can check out the Council calendar and learn how to testify at hearings, or follow me on social media for updates at @CMBrookePinto.

What are your favorite places to eat in D.C.?
Ward 2 is lucky to have over 40% of all the restaurants in the city! I try to explore new restaurants in each of our neighborhoods when I can. Some of my favorites include Rakuya in Dupont Circle, Ris in the West End, Colada Shop in Logan Circle, and Call Your Mother or Busboys and Poets for a weekend treat.

What are your favorite things to do in the city?
One of the best parts of my job is getting to know thousands of different neighbors. In my “free” time, I love to bike in my neighborhood or at the National monuments, kayak at the Georgetown Waterfront, and attend shows at D.C. theaters – Wooly Mammoth, Studio Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, and the Kennedy Center, to name a few. I must admit I do have the entire soundtrack to Hamilton (and many other wonderful musicals) memorized.
