Brianne Nadaeu is Ward 1’s Councilmember, a mother of two, and has impeccable taste in pizza. Here’s what she's been digging recently, both within the council and outside of it.
1) What is one issue going through the D.C. Council right now that you're really passionate about?
“Pushing for an Inclusive Democracy. It’s important that we encourage full participation in our elections. My legislation, the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, passed the first of two votes on Wednesday and will expand voting rights in local elections to eligible residents who aren’t U.S. citizens.
Local officials make decisions about affordable housing, education, human services, and city services that impact all residents. Those who have made the District their permanent home should have a say in who represents them.”
2) What are your favorite places to eat in D.C.?
“I have two small children, so anywhere that can serve a full meal before they melt down and cause a scene that’ll end up posted on TikTok. Red Rocks can usually accomplish that for us! I like spots I can walk to in Park View – Tabla, Heat Da Spot, the Coupe. And for an adult hang, Smitty’s or St. Vincent. Also, Call Your Mother is on our corner. So, you know … ”
3) What are your go-to activities in the city/community?
“I spend a lot of time visiting D.C. parks. Madeline requires a swing, and Zoe is a climber. For a bigger excursion, the National Arboretum, Kenilworth Gardens, or Rock Creek Park. This weekend, we’re going to be on the hunt for a pumpkin patch.”
