Your Guide to January 2025 in DC

00:00:00

With the holidays behind us, and inauguration day looming, it can be hard to keep the winter scaries at bay. Here are a few things we're looking forward to this month to help get us through.

Go To a Caps Game

We’re halfway through the Washington Capitals season, and it’s the perfect time to catch some great games while seats are still (relatively) cheap. Shockingly, they’re one of the best teams in the league this year, which, after a bleak end to last season, is a treat to watch.

In the Clerb, We All Fam

Being cooped up all day means you’ve got to get that energy out somewhere. Queer DJ collective Flower Factory is hosting an event at Flash on Jan. 9 with three different DJ rooms and straight bangers ‘till 3 a.m. Even if you’re not a big club-goer, Flower Factory curates a whimsical, accepting, and fun vibe that everyone should try at least once. (We’re big fans.)

Intentionally Walk Every Day

A walk a day keeps the voices at bay. I’ve recently started going for a walk before work (I know, very mature of me) and it has (somewhat annoyingly) been life-changing. Daily walks have been proven to improve sleep, decrease stress, and have a plethora of other great benefits. New year, new you, right?

Legos As Art

The Art of the Brick, a Lego art exhibition by artist Nathan Sawaya, debuts at the Rhode Island Center on Jan. 30. It includes 130 sculptures made from over one million Lego bricks (your Star Wars death star set could never). Tickets are $25.

Book a Concert Now to Avoid the FOMO Later

Tons of great performers are coming to the DMV this spring, and by the time you remember, they’ll all be sold out. So grab tickets now!

Some ones I’m looking forward to are:

The Slopes Are Calling

If we’re ever going to have “ski-worthy” snow, it’s in January. The best local options are Timberline Mountain (a 3-hour drive) and Snowshoe Mountain Resort (4-hour drive). For something even closer, if not quite as extensive, Liberty Mountain Resort is only 90 minutes away. Nothing for the true snow bunnies.

Get Out of Town

With MLK weekend also being inauguration weekend, it might be the perfect time to get out of town and avoid the chaos. If you're not a skier, we've got plenty of other winter getaway options for you, from cute B&B's to idyllic train journeys.
