Your Guide to February 2025 in DC

00:00:00

February is one of the hardest months to get through in D.C. It’s the cold, gray, slog into spring. That makes it the perfect month to get errands and appointments out of the way or shamelessly rot and relax. But if you’re looking to spice up the month, here’s what we’d do.

Celebrate Black History Through Film

The DC Black History Film Festival at Lincoln Theatre showcases stories about and by D.C.’s Black community. It’s on Feb. 28 and is totally free. Howard University is also hosting a Black Film Festival this month called “Visions of Freedom” from Feb. 11 - 14 with a focus on social justice, cultural empowerment, and the African diaspora. Finally, D.C. Public Library is hosting its own Black Film Fest starting Feb 4.

Enter Uncanny Valley

The National Museum of Women In the Arts opens a new exhibit on Feb. 28 called “Uncanny.” The exhibit will display fantastical figures, disquieting places, and borderline disorientating images that attempt to reclaim female authorship over women's bodies. Tickets are $13 for D.C. residents but free on the first Sunday and second Wednesday of every month.

Get Away for Valentine's Day

For the price of a nice dinner for two in D.C. you could get a cute cabin in the woods somewhere (maybe even with a hot tub). Or maybe a ski trip is more your vibe? Either way, the time to plan is now, before they’re all booked up. Here are some of our favorite spots.

Get Your REAL ID

Ok, not that spicy, but necessary. Have you gotten your REAL ID yet? If not — from one procrastinator to another — this is a PSA that your non-REAL ID driver’s license isn’t gonna cut it at airport security starting May 7. Here’s how to check if you have one and how to get one if not.

Federal Workers Take a Free Flow

District Yoga is offering a free yoga class to federal workers on Feb. 8 and March 8 at their Bloomingdale location. The class will focus on relaxing and stress-relieving techniques. Because, let’s be real, you need it.
