There has been more food drama than usual lately, but that also means lots of tasty new things are in the works!

👋 Welcome these newcomers to the scene:

Any Day Now (Navy Yard): Chef Tim Ma of Lucky Danger is opening this all-day restaurant with a cafe, cocktail bar, and coworking space. Dinner will be served starting in July. Until then, try their scallion pancake sandwiches. Opening June 1.

The Noodle Lady (ghost kitchen): The chef behind the Thai street food pop-up Toh Roong just opened a ghost kitchen turning out hot bowls of Thai noodles and traditional rice dishes.

Whitlows DC (U Street): Yet again, Whitlows is moving locations, this time to U Street and 9th Street NW. Fourth time’s the charm? Opening early June.

Met Khao (Falls Church): The chef behind Thip Khao is expanding her tiny original joint in Falls Church to become a casual noodle spot next month. She’s also opening a brand-new Lao restaurant in Arlington in late June.

Ruta (Capitol Hill): D.C.’s first Ukrainian restaurant had a soft opening this month with limited hours and is expected to officially open any day now. Where else are you going to get your borscht?

🪦 Wave farewell to:

Moon Rabbit (The Wharf): This hot Vietnamese restaurant shut its doors suddenly earlier this month. Learn more about the inside drama and why it closed.

Amsterdam Falafel (Adams Morgan): This beloved fast casual joint closed last week after 18 years. The owner told me  “the community allowed it to grow beyond anything we could have anticipated.”
