The Brookland Arts Walk is a pedestrian promenade with 27 different studios by local, independent artists. They host a different pop-up market every weekend, like seconds sales or small business Saturdays. It’s a great spot to shop for holiday gifts, bring a friend, or get inspired.
Getting there: The Brookland-CUA red line stop drops you off steps away from the galleries. The H2, H6, R4, and G8 buses will also get you close. There’s also plenty of street parking and a parking garage.
When to go: The studios are open on Saturdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. during the holidays. They have pop-ups every weekend, and on Dec. 17 they are having a special Yalda/Winter Solstice market.
What to do: Browse the galleries! Sio Ceramics and Kuzah Potterydesign stunning dishware. Bicycle Trash uses old tire tubes to make accessories. Katie McGuire creates watercolor landscapes. Talk to the artists, ask questions, and support your favorites.
Where to eat: If you go on Saturday, the Monroe St. farmers market is up and running, with food options including Lei Musibi (incredible) and Taco Dirty To Me. Otherwise, the Brookland Pint and Busboys and Poets are both great standbys.
